Our senior member, Nandita Dasgupta will be the Election Commissioner for this year.
A formal request to the Suntrust Bank will be made to transfer the JUAA WMA account authority from Madhumita Sircar and Koushik Chanda to Supratim Sanyal and Souptik Datta at earliest convenience. Asok Motayed, a senior member of JUAA WMA chapter has so far volunteered to maintain the legal documents and IRS related issues since the beginning of this chapter. He has mentioned to provide a copy of all the organizational rules and regulations related documents to the present board Secretary, Merujyoti Roy for record purposes. He will also help the present board Treasurer Jaynata Nath and Joint Treasurer, Souptik Datta to get accustomed with IRS related matters of JUAA WMA.
The outgoing board under the leadership of Madhumita Sircar was very successful in achieving us total fund worth of approximately $27,000 for the last year. The board and the trustee members applauded the outgoing president for her invaluable contribution over the last two years. The final account statement will be updated soon by Debabrata Das and the Treasurer Jayanta Nath.
Beside the regular scholarship program and work study program supported by this chapter, a new scholarship program has been established during the last year in remembrance of Avijit Mahato. Couple of years back, a most hated incident of campus crime in USA has unfortunately taken away Avijit’s life. He was a 2001 pass out from the JU Mechanical Engineering Department and was pursuing higher education in this land of opportunity. His friends along with the JUAA WMA board have established the “Avijit Mahato Scholarship Fund” primarily to support needy and meritorious students of Mechanical Engineering Department. The present board will continue to support these programs along with other plans in the upcoming years.
Last year, an initiative was taken to open a brokerage account to handle any stocks donated to the JUAA WMA chapter. Apurba Roy, a senior alumnus from Atlanta was willing to donate some of his stocks, which actually triggered this process. However, the process of opening the brokerage account is pending and requires an audit from the bank to make it active and usable. As a new board president is taking over from the current year, it has been decided in the meeting that the pending account opening process will not be followed through and a fresh effort will be made to create a new brokerage account for the above mentioned cause.
All the board members are asked to provide the individual call list containing the updated member information to Merujyoti Roy. He will begin the process of merging the good information from the individual lists to create a most authentic master list. The new board president, Supratim Sanyal has mentioned to focus on propagating Jadavpur University as a brand, which will thereby have fruitful outcome in near future. He has also mentioned to create a mission statement for our chapter and will work on strengthening the liaison between the Jadavpurians and the professional world through meaningful networking. Also, the current board will adopt available new technologies for in-house communications and discussions. To enhance the website facilities, Debabrata Das will explore the different options available, primarily in Google, for non profit organization like JUAA WMA.
The next meeting of the new board members will be decided soon along with the event plans for the upcoming year.
The Meeting then ended with the Vote of Thanks.
